Norwood Arena 2003 "Summer Bash" a Success!
East Falmouth (Cape Cod) Sunday, July 27, 2003 -Perfect weather, ocean views, cold beer, great food, car owners, officials, mechanics, fans and several of Norwood Arena's finest drivers. That was just the start of a great Sunday afternoon as Patty and Mike Favulli and Carl and Treva Merrill hosted what many hope will become an annual summer event.

Many stories were told and memories of races and people from the past could be heard. The only two times that the conversation stopped was for dinner and when Ric fired up Old Blue, the famous #3 Len Boehler coupe driven by Bugs Stevens and Fred DeSarro. The sound of the engine was like a mating call as most of the men made their way to check out the car and get their fill of "familiar fumes."

Paul Conley, one of the Track Photographers at Norwood Arena, brought some photos to show and loan to the web site for scanning. Bob Bacchiochi also loaned his personal scrap book to the web site that includes some additional home photos of his #4 car after the impact with the first turn wall (see HOME PAGE).

Speaking of photographs, Race Historian R.A. Silvia gave some updates on the New England motorsport museum that will become home to his 50,000+ photographs, including many Norwood Arena images and artifacts that you will see on this site as development continues. If you haven't done so, check out the new historic race magazine "Vintage Racer" that R.A. is editor of.

Mike Favulli displayed pictures from his days as Assistant Starter at Norwood Arena. By far, Carl Merrill's collection of books, photos, parking passes, licenses and memorabilia related to Norwood Arena was most impressive. Carl was involved with the track for nearly its entire existence as a car owner, starter and several other official positions including Director of Racing.

It was great to see old friends again and let's hope this becomes an annual event. I'm sure the 70+ people that attended would agree!

The next Norwood Arena Event is the October Reunion. Remember, that tickets are advance sales only and not available at the door the day of the event.
