Rick Healey - Norwood Arena Speedway Street Division car owner and driver passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2004.

Rick is the son of Liz Healey, matriarch of the family affectionately known at Norwood Arena as "the Healey clan," and brother to driver Bob Healey. The Healey family has a deep and rich history of skilled accomplishments at Norwood Arena with Liz, as car owner, enjoying many victory lane celebrations.

Rick's career at Norwood Arena began before he was old enough to drive. "Mom bought Bobby and I a novice car for us to race - I was 11 and he was 14 years old and we had someone race it for us." Although others drove his first race cars, Rick counted down the days until he got his chance behind the wheel. That chance came piloting the # 3 Bomber car. "I drove brother Bob's car because he had left for Viet Nam and gave me his car while gone. That was 1967 and it was a 1954 Ford, my first driving experience at Norwood." Rick and Bob continued the winning family tradition.

Rick had adopted the number 23, used on cars that his mom owned and driven by the late Red Bolduc back in the late 50's and early 60's. Lenny Baker put Rick's 23 car in victory lane several times before Rick made his mark as a driver with that number. By the time the last season of racing had ended at Norwood Arena in 1972, Rick Healey had scored several wins as both driver and car owner. Racing and Norwood Arena had truly been a way of life for Rick Healey.

In recent years, Rick (who lived in Florida) has been a dedicated fan of this web site and one of the first to buy tickets for the annual Norwood Arena reunion. Rick delighted in flying up from Florida to spend 5 hours at the reunion with old Norwood Arena friends. He contributed material, history and was a patron of this historic site. His enthusiasm and visible enjoyment for "everything Norwood Arena" will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service for Rick was held on Friday, January 7th, 2005 in Canton, MA.
